Thinking about how Felix has grown up being told he's a monster. that there is something deeply, horribly wrong with his existence.

His relationship with Amelie seems fairly good, but its obvious she wasn't able to shield him from all he had to live through with his father.

Felix has grown up shouldering all his father's hatred and abuse. He's grown up being told he wasn't normal. That he was a curse and the reason for his father's failing health.

Then he meets Kagami. While her mother hasn't been as violently abusive as Colt is alluded to have been, Kagami is definitely "kept in line" by her mother.

Kagami wasn't raised with the word "monster", but on the far end of the scale with "perfect".

Felix has finally found someone who has been othered and marginalised like him.

Sure, Adrien exists. But the puppetry Felix was forced through has been there his whole life from the sounds of it, while Adrien appears to have had a more loving childhood while Emilie was around.

It's not Adrien's fault that he was created out of love while Felix's conception originated with envy. But it does mean there's a disconnect between Felix and Adrien.

But now there's Kagami. Someone who has struggled to build her own connections, to distance herself from that "perfection" label her mother insists on. She too wants to break free and be who she wants to be.

So its no wonder Felix goes heart-first into loving Kagami. She's the closest to understanding how it's felt to be controlled and marginalised because of that control. His love for her is built out of an immense respect for her trying to establish her own identity despite her origins. How could he not fall in love with that?

She's not perfect and she's happy and determined to own that.

He's not a monster and is trying to recreate himself from that.

They're both at a stage where they're learning how to be themselves and how to be human - flaws and all. And part of being human is loving and growing with people. Kagami and Felix just match and balance each other so well that they can grow into real love together. A love that they have chosen themselves.
